My Approach to the Process of Painting

​I am drawn to abstraction - shapes and patterns, and the blending and contrasting of saturated colors. I work with layers of paints to create a sense of dimension, transparency and space. My design palette includes circles, orbits, or the Japanese "enso." Painting intuitively, I feel these are universal symbols in our shared history as well as in our individual lives. A symbol of ceaselessly returning and renewing.

Some of my abstractions can be interpreted as envisioning the molecular world. Peering close-up and delving into the invisible microscopic realm. And then they can be interpreted as the opposite - facing outward to the ever expanding universe at night - the multiverses of infinite orbits of suns, planets, moons, and galaxies in the unimaginable ocean of blackness and expanding space. Freedom of interpretation is where the onlooker takes over - perhaps seeking visual order from paintings that is not deliberately representational and challenges the imagination.
